Phrasal Verbs
5B Situation
You've been studying the phrasal verbs with your class and they need more practice.
Question/Task
What are the advantages of using this activity rather than a similar one in the coursebook? Any disadvantages?
Answer:
It presents the task clearly before and after: students can clearly see the gaps where they are supposed to fill In the words.
Provides answers and correction scheme: and explains correct usage with brief notes.
Doesn't explain why answers might be wrong - no diagnosis of Incorrect answers (Ie why students might have answered as they did). This element would be more manageable In class.
Adds element of competition, and students can manage their own Improvements.
Quite 'self-centred' - difficult for students to check In pairs

This is a good site with news stories. Look under 'Quirkies' for real life, off the wall stories that could add a lighter note to the class. We've picked one that we liked. Rosie & Dave

Teen's harrowing experience
An Austrian teenager was run over by a tractor twice - once when he fell off and again when his friend drove back to see where he was.
Hubert Hochstetter, 17, from the village of Kainisch, fell off the tractor as he and his 22-year-old friend Josef Mittringer were driving along the road.
He fell under the back wheels of the three-ton vehicle and had his ribs and arms broken.
But his pal Mittringer who could not see his friend lying behind his back wheels reversed to look where he was, and in doing so ran him over again, this time breaking his legs.
Mittringer panicked when he saw what had happened and drove off. But witnesses called an ambulance and the teenager was treated in hospital.
Doctors said that he will be in hospital for weeks but he's expected to make a full recovery.

When the course finishes, I will be taking few days to visit some friends in Oxford and Devon, then heading back to Norwich to await delivery and subsequent fitting ( I hope!) of our new kitchen. So, I'll have a 2 week break before ......... starting the next CELTA course at Nile...this time with Maria (while Sharon is preparing herself for the Summer at the University).
But I but the trainees won't be as nice as you lot!! Despite the hard work, you've kept positive and enthusiastic...and no tears yet...(at least not in front of Sharon and I!). Thank you!
